Have a Heart for Burlington is a grass roots group whose mission is to ensure that every child in Burlington has the opportunity to play every day.

The group’s members include: Community Development Halton, Our Kids Network – Aldershot Community HUB, North BurLINKton, the Burlington Sports Alliance, the YMCA of Hamilton-Burlington-Brantford, Open Doors, the City of Burlington Parks and Recreation Department, Applemead Community Resources, Halton Public Health, Jump Start Foundation, the Halton Regional Police Service and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Have a Heart for Burlington was formed out of a Heart and Stroke SPARK grant in 2012, bringing people and groups around the table to look at collaborative efforts to increase access to recreation in Burlington. In the past the group has work together on Sport Week in Burlington and Sports Day in Canada. Those efforts have resulted an important dialogue about the relevance of neighbourhood based activities as one way of reducing barriers to participation in recreation. The result has seen a number of Burlington sports groups reach out into neighbourhoods to provide clinics, equipment and encouragement for skills development.

Most recently the group has been awarded an RBC Learn to Play Grant which is focused on the development of a Physical Literacy Summit as well as developing further conversation in Burlington about collaboration for the development of supportive environments for children and youth to be active.

There is always more room at the table for the conversation. If you are interested in joining us please contact Rishia Burke at Community Development Halton rburke@cdhalton.ca or 905-632-1975.
